March 23, 2015

Several years ago I decided to read at least one book by every author who participated in the event! It was one of the best decisions I ever made. It allowed me to gain insight into who they were and it certainly helped to break the ice when we met for the first time. Today I will begin that trek by starting "40 Acres" by Dwayne Alexander Smith, the 2015 Black Author & Readers Rock's keynote speaker.

I also spent time today developing a list of potential panel topics. Much of this event is directed at book club members so it's important that at least two panels each year are "just for" them.  This year I will title one panel "Book Club Best Practices" so that a multiple of topics can be covered such as bylaws, commitment, the election of officers, etc.. For the general audience, I'm considering "How do authors reach readers who are not on social media?" There are usually four panels offered - so this is work in progress and I haven't even yet begun to match panels with panelists!
